HOW WE HELP

As Separation Anxiety Specialists (CSATS), we are highly skilled in addressing these alone time behaviors. We have done intensive study of separation related behaviors, involving over 100 hours of instruction, coursework and exams.

Our approach is science based! We work with you and our dog to systematically increase your dog’s comfort level with being alone. By going at the dog’s pace we avoid flooding them with stress and they learn that being alone is no big deal and nothing to panic about. In return you no longer have to worry about what you are coming home to and how your pup is feeling while you are gone.

CSATs continue learning through case study and review with monthly meetings and ongoing colleague support.

By working with us, we not only help to improve your dog’s quality of life, but yours as well! This training can help you have peace of mind, feel less guilty about how they feel while you’re gone, and no more complaints from the neighbors. It will also help your dog feel more relaxed and happy with their time alone!

BAE made the separation anxiety training a seamless and straightforward process. Often times, we’ve found dog training a little overwhelming as there are many intricacies like what days you should do what and when is the dog about to reach their breaking point. They clearly outlined step by step what we’re doing every day making it as easy as possible so we knew what we had to do each day. It was awesome seeing the progress our pup made and truly believe we’re set up for success for the long run as opposed to a few quick wins that’ll quickly fade away. We saw great results while working together and would highly recommend to everyone for your dog training needs!

WHAT IT MIGHT LOOK LIKE

  • Vocalizing while you are away.

  • Destruction in the home while you are away. Most often destruction of exits (e.g. doorways, window sills, crates, etc.).

  • House trained dogs eliminating in the home when alone.

  • Excessive panting and increased respiration.

  • Excessive drooling.

  • Restlessness, pacing, or inability to relax when alone.

  • Injuring self when alone.

  • In some cases aggressive behaviors to prevent you from leaving or attempting to block the door.

Does your dog engage in any of the above behaviors? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

WHAT IS Separation Anxiety?

Separation Anxiety is a technical term and clinical diagnosis used and given by Veterinarians.

The behaviors associated with separation anxiety are fear based behaviors. The fear of being alone is similar to that of a thunder or firework phobia. The dog is not making a conscious choice to engage in these behaviors, but rather these behaviors are a physiological response to alone time.

Separation Anxiety risk factors include, but are not limited to, genetics, a traumatic experience that occurs when the dog is left alone or that occurs at another time, changes in the home (e.g. moving, a change in the family structure, etc.), re-homing the dog, or recently bringing a dog home.

It is a label often used by guardians and trainers to convey that their dog has a challenging time when left alone. The great news is that even if your dog doesn’t have a formal diagnosis of Separation Anxiety we can still help them with their separation related problems!

We had a wonderful experience working with BAE dogs and it was one of the best investments we made for our 9 month old puppy, Herbert. We needed help navigating his separation anxiety and didn’t have the tools to train him gradually on our own. We’ve gained so much from our training sessions – from understanding Herbert’s sensitivity to sounds and how we can expand his comfort level without going over his threshold. While our program was focused on separation anxiety, BAE Dogs was incredibly supportive in helping us with other adolescent challenges that sprouted up. Herbert has made great progress with Bae Dog’s guidance and techniques and we can’t recommend them enough! We are so grateful for their commitment to Herbert’s well-being and teaching us the skills to be nurturing dog parents.”
